2 qts water

3 C sugar
1 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp ground cloves
2 T salt

Directions:
Combine water, and salt with apples. Drain apples, but do not rinse. Put through food processor to grind up fine. There should be 2 qts.
Combine with cider. Place in large oven proof pan at 350 in oven. Simmer in oven 3 to 3 1/2 hours until cooked down about half, and is thick and mushy. Stir thoroughly every 1/2 hour. Combine sugar and spices, add to sauce and return to oven. Continue simmering about another 1 1/2 hr, or until thick, stirring every 1/2 hr. To test, pour small amount onto a cold plate. If no liquid oozes around edge it is done.
Pur into hot jars, and process in boiling water bath 10 minutes.
Can also be frozen in small containers.

Personal Notes:
This was the best growing up on toast. Everyone loved it. Today I now do the low sugar version in the instant pot before canning.
