2 sticks butter* (room temp)
2 cups sugar
4 eggs (separate whites from yolks)
2 tsp. vanilla
3 cups flour
3 tsp. baking powder
½ tsp. salt
1 cup milk

Directions:
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350º and grease two 9" cake pans.
- Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and set aside.
- Beat together butter and sugar til light and fluffy. Beat in egg yolks one at a time. Mix in vanilla.
- Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with milk (start and end with dry).
- Whip egg whites to soft peaks and fold into cake batter.
- Divide batter evenly between cake pans and bake for approximately 30 minutes or until done.

When cake is cool frost with Chocolate Frosting.

*Recipe Note: I remember making this cake with Crisco and not butter but I think Mom switched to butter years later.
