1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
3 Tbsp unsweetened baking cocoa
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla
1 Tbsp white vinegar
5 Tbsp vegetable oil

Directions:
Heat oven to 350°F.
Sift together flour, cocoa, salt, sugar and baking soda in mixing bowl or 8"x8" or 9"x9" baking pan. If mixing in baking pan, make 3 holes in dry mixture, in 1st hole add vanilla, 2nd hole add vinegar, 3rd hole add vegetable oil. If using mixing bowl, add vanilla, vinegar and vegetable oil and mix together. For both, pour 1 cup cold water over all ingredients and mix with fork, until well blended.
To make cake: Bake in 8"x8" or 9"x9" baking pan for 30-35minutes.
To make whoopie pies: Add about 1 Tbsp mixture to well greased muffin tin cups and bake for about 12 minutes, spinning pan after 6 minutes. Look for edges of cake to appear to be pulling away from edges of cups.
Let cool before frosting or dust cake with confectioners sugar.
