1C shortening (author note: use 1/2C butter 1/2C shortening or all butter)
1C brown sugar
1C white sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
1tsp vanilla
1 1/2tsp salt
1tsp baking soda
3C oatmeal (not quick)
1C walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together sugars and shortening/butter. Add eggs and vanilla; beat well. Sift together dry ingredients and add to wet ingredients, mix well. Stir in oats and nuts. Drop cookies on ungreased sheet pan. Bake at 350º for about 10min for soft, or 15min for crispy cookies. You'll get about 90 cookies if you use a melon baller or drop them the size of a whole walnut.

These were a popular dessert brought to all family parties by Tricia; remember she'd bring them in the green container w/clear top, perfect for transporting them!! When asked why she made so many, she'd say that's how many it makes, low and behold, now we know she was using a melon baller to drop them!!!
