2 sticks butter
4 Tbsp cocoa
1 cup water
2 cup flour
2 cup sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup buttermilk (can substitute 1/2 cup milk with 1 Tbsp white vinegar added)
2 eggs
1 tsp vanila

Frosting
1 stick butter
6 Tbsp buttermilk
3 Tbsp cocoa
3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup pecans (optional)

In a medium sauce pan, melt butter. Add cocoa and water. Bring mixture to a boil. Remove from heat.

Sift flour. Add flour, sugar, and baking to the cocoa mixture.

Add buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla. Stir until everything is incorporated.

Preheat oven to 350º. Prepare cookie sheet (with an edge) by greasing with Crisco or butter, then dust with flour. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until cake springs back with lightly pressed in the middle.

Frosting
While cake is baking, prepare frosting. In a medium sauce pan, melt butter. Add buttermilk and cocoa. Bring to a boil and remove from heat.

Stir in vanilla. Mix in powdered sugar. Beat until sugar is dissolved.

Spread frosting on cake with cake is still warm.
