1 c. hot water
8 oz. pkg. chopped dates
2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. soda
dash salt
1 c. sugar
1 c. mayonnaise
1 tsp. vanilla
TOPPING:
½ c. sugar
½ c. water
½ c. dates
½ c. nuts
1 tsp. vanilla
Directions:
Directions:
Pour water over dates. Let stand. Sift flour, soda, and salt. Stir sugar into date mixture until dissolved. Add dry ingredients, mayonnaise, vanilla, and nuts. Pack into greased and floured bread pan. Bake @ 325º for 1 hour. TOPPING: Combine over low heat and cook until thick. Stir constantly, pour over warm cake.
