Ingredients: A good guideline to follow is 1 ounce cannabis : 1 pound butter. Scale accordingly (1/4 ounce to 1/4 pound, etc.) This recipe also works with coconut oil. I prefer Spectrum Naturals - Organic Coconut Oil for its neutral taste.
NOTE: For less weedy taste, soak your buds overnight in water, and dry before grinding. This removes much of the chlorophyl that is responsible for most of the herbal taste.
• Decarb the cannabis by heating it in a low temp oven to convert the THCA to THC without losing terpenes (Terpenes are the pungent oils that color your cannabis with distinctive flavors such as berry, mint, citrus and pine. There are many medicinal benefits to terpenes; some will successfully relieve your stress while others will promote focus and awareness.)
1. Set oven to 240F (115C).
2. Spread buds evenly across baking sheet and bake for 40 minutes, checking regularly for even toasting.

Directions:• Prepare Butter
1. In a crock pot, add enough water to float your herbs. You're trying to elevate the contents to avoid burning them. The water also ensures that during the cooking process, the water evaporates and not the THC or butter. The butter is becoming concentrated with the THC, and the water aids in this process but will be separated out in the final product.
2. Carefully grind your decarboxylated cannabis. This grinder will get you a perfect consistency.
3. Add butter and set crock pot to low.
4. Once butter is melted into the water add the finely ground cannabis to the pot, and gently stir until the mixture is clump free
5. Simmer that whole mix for up to 5 hours, covered.
6. Strain the mixture to remove the herbal solids using a chinois or fine mesh strainer. You may need to repeat to catch the smaller bits. The more you can remove at this step, the less butter you'll waste after cooling. Cheesecloth is another great option for catching all of the pieces. Be sure to squeeze out the excess liquid.
7. Cover and chill for 24 hours. The cannabutter will eventually rise to the top and solidify. Remove butter from water and store in airtight container. Butter will keep in fridge for 2 weeks and in the freezer for up to 1 year (or until your roommate finds it). |

Personal
Notes: This butter is intended for baking or spreading, but do not bring the butter to a high temperature on its own. For example you would not want to sear a piece of meat or sauté vegetables using cannabutter. The high heat will burn off the THC, and leave you with a bitter and unusable product.
