3 1/4 - 3 3/4 c. flour
1 pkg. instant dry yeast
1/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. milk
1/2 c. water
1/4 c. butter or margarine, softened
1 egg, beaten

In large mixing bowl, combine 1 1/2 c. flour, yeast, 1/4 c. sugar and salt. Mix well. In saucepan, heat milk, water and 1/4 c. butter until warm (120-130). Butter does not need to melt. Add to flour mixture. Add egg. Blend at low speed until moistened; then beat 3 minutes at medium speed. By hand, gradually stir in enough remaining flour to make a soft dough. Knead on floured surface about 5-8 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in greased bowl, turning to grease top. Cover. Let rise in warm place about 1 hour or until doubled in size. Prepare filling. Punch down dough. On lightly floured surface, roll to a 15"x 12" rectangle. Spread with softened butter. Sprinkle filling, raisins and nuts (if desired) over dough. Starting with the shorter side, roll up lightly. Pinch edge to seal. Cut into 12 slices. Place in buttered 13" x 9" cake pan. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 30 minutes or until almost doubled in size. Bake at 375 for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from pan and cool. May be glazed with frosting.

2 tsp. cinnamon
2 T. butter softened
raisins, optional
nuts, optional

Combine brown sugar, 2 T. sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.
