1 c sugar
1 1/2 c flour
2 heaping Tbsp cocoa
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp soda
1 c sour milk or buttermilk
5 Tbsp melted shortening
1 egg

She included this note: If I have sour cream I use 1 cup of it and omit shortening but use 1/2 cup boiling water. I don't think the commercial sour cream would work. It isn't as rich.

Mix or sift the sugar, flour cocoa, salt and soda together
Add the sour milk or buttermilk, smelted shortening and egg.
Mix together well

(No baking instructions were included - I would assume that it was baked at 350º until toothpick inserted in center come out clean.)
