Parker House Rolls Recipe

1 pkg. dry or 1 cake yeast
1/4 c. lukewarm water
1 c. scalded milk
2 Tbsp shortening - can be increased to 1/4 c.
2 Tbsp sugar - can be increased to 1/4 c. (Grandma used 1/4 c.)
1 tsp. salt
1 well beaten egg
3 1/2 c. flour

Directions:

Soften yeast in warm water.
Combine milk, shortening, sugar and salt.
Cool to lukewarm.
Add yeast and egg
Stir in flour to make soft dough, Beat vigorously.
Cover and let rise in warm place until double in bulk.
Turn out on lightly floured surface.
Rol to 1/4 - 1/2 inch thick
Cut with round cutter, brush with butter,
Make crease just off center, fold so ens overlap and seal edges
Place on greased cookie sheet. Brush with melted butter.
Let rise till double.
Bake in 400º oven for about 15 minutes.

She has a note;
Pecan rollls:
1/2 c. light cream
2 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. butter
Bring to boil stirring constantly. ( I only use half or less for 1 pan)

We ALWAYS loved these rolls - they were really special and something we looked forward to at her home!

I never watched her make the pecan rolls but I assume she rolled out the dough, put the mixture on and rolled like you would do for cinnamon rolls -slice and bake
