2 c. flour - sifted
2 tsp. black pepper
1 tsp. salt
3/4 c,. sugar
1/2 c. melted butter
2 eggs - unbeaten
1/2 t. vanilla
1T. grated orange rind

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour, pepper and salt together - sift it twice
Combine sugar, melted butter and eggs (add one at a time) to the - - beat well after each egg.
Add vanilla and orange rind, mix well.
Gradually add the sifted dry ingredients - stirring until mixture is smooth.
Cover and chill.
Divide the dough into 2 parts, roll out lightly on floured board
Cut one part into rounds the size of a doughnut cutter (no hole in the middle)
Cut the 2nd part with a doughnut cutter - with the hole in the middle
Spread well mixed, moist, mincemeat to the a center of the plain round, top with the doughnut cutter pieces.....pressing outer edges lightly together.

Grandma's directions end there - but - place on baking sheet and bake until golden brown.
