Ingredients: Preheat oven to 350°
2 Cups Lard (Can substitute Crisco but better with Lard) 1 ½ Cups Sugar 2 Eggs 6 Cups Flour 3 Teaspoons Baking Powder 3 Teaspoon Anise Seed Small Glass of Wine, Brandy or Whiskey (Can substitute Orange Juice)
Cinnamon/Sugar Mixture:
1/4 Cup Granulated Sugar 3/4 Teaspoon Ground Cinnamon

Directions:Cream together lard/crisco, sugar and eggs. In separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder and anise.
Slowly add dry mixture to creamed mixture until well blended. Add liquid as needed.
Knead on floured board. Roll out dough to 1/4 inch thick and cut into desired shapes.
Top with cinnamon/sugar mixture.
Bake for approximately 10 minutes or until golden. |

Notes: Biscochitos are a traditional Christmas cookie topped with cinnamon and sugar with recipes having been passed down for generations in New Mexico. There are many variations to the Traditional biscochito recipe but the consensus is pretty clear about two ingredients: you need lard and you need alcohol.
