1 (14-ounce) loaf french bread
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
2 tablespoons minced fresh garlic
1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh parsley (optional)
1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh basil, or 1/2 teaspoon dried (optional)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Cut french bread loaf in half horizontally. In a small mixing bowl stir together butter, garlic, parsley, basil, salt and pepper. Spread mixture evenly over top of both bread halves. Place bread on baking sheet and bake in center of oven for 10-14 minutes or until bread is crisp and top is golden brown. Cut into slices and serve warm.
