1 medium-sized cabbage white or red 2-3 lbs
2 onions
2 tbsp vinegar
2 tart apples – optional
4 slices bacon
1 tbsp flour
1 tbsp sugar

Salt and Pepper to taste

Directions:
Directions:
Shred cabbage, chop onion and combine.
Sprinkle 2 tbsp salt and let stand one hour.
Squeeze out liquid, then cover with boiling water. Let stand 10 minutes, then drain.
Cover again with boiling water and add peeled chopped apples, sugar and vinegar; cook until tender.
Fry bacon (chopped).
Remove bacon and mix flour with the bacon fat.
Stir 1 cup of cabbage liquid into the bacon fat/flour mixture. Then add it back over the cabbage. Cook until thickened. Add the fried bacon.
