Ingredients:
Cookies:

1 cup real butter, softened (no substitutes)
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp instant coffee granules
1-3/4 cups all purpose flour

Glaze:

1/4 cup butter
2 oz unsweetened chocolate
4 cups powdered sugar
1/2 cup half n' half

Directions:
Directions:
These cookies bake at 350º, but you will chill the dough before baking.

Using your electric mixer, cream butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy. Add vanilla, mix in. Combine flour and coffee granules, mix well, then add to butter mixture and mix well. Chill for about 30 minutes. (You can make the dough ahead and chill longer, but you will need it to sit out awhile before forming, as the dough will be very hard and crumbly if too cold.) Shape dough into 3/4" balls and place on ungreased or parchment lined baking sheets, 2" apart. Bake for 18-20 minutes, until bottom edges just barely begin to brown. While cookies are baking, make the glaze. When cookies are done, remove from baking sheets onto cooling racks and either spread or pipe about 3/4 to 1 tsp frosting onto each cookie while glaze and cookies are still warm. If baking as a Christmas cookie, sprinkle with Christmas colored non-pareils or put a candy star or tree in the middle of each cookie.

Personal Notes:
These are so good and different from most other cookies I make, so they are a nice addition to a Christmas cookie tray. This cookie is a favorite of my son Greg and my daughter-in-law Kaydi, so I make sure and make them when we are together for Christmas.
