14-16 small tart apples
Wooden skewers
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
2 pounds brown sugar
1 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
1 cup light corn syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Chopped nuts (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Line a large pan (enough to fit all the apples) with foil and butter the foil. Wash and dry the apples. Remove the stems from the apples, insert skewers into the stem end, and put the apples on the baking sheet. Put the butter, brown sugar, condensed milk and corn syrup in a 3-quart saucepan. Cook, stirring frequently, over medium-high heat until the mixture boils. Reduce heat to medium and cook, stirring frequently, until the temperature reads 248 degrees (15 to 20 minutes). Remove from heat. Stir in the vanilla extract. Dip the apples in the caramel. If desired, roll in the chopped nuts. Put on the baking sheet and let cool. Apples may be stored in the refrigerator for a few days.
