Hot Oil, leftovers from a fried protein, like chicken
Enough Flour to soak up oil
Whole Milk

Add flour to hot oil, this is called a Rue, you'll want to stir this frequently till the time starts to darken. The darker the rue the more flavor it will have. Once you have browned it enough slowly add milk, 1 cup at first, then ¾ cup after. You want to add milk and Stir continuously as it thickens. When it is thick add more milk. Repeat till it stops thickening quickly. Turn off the heat at this point and it should thicken enough then as not to be to runny when serving.
You can do this when making sausage gravy, bacon or hamburger. Just Brown the meat and use the drippings to make the gravy. You don't even have to remove the meat.
