Deep Fried Tofu

1 pound firm tofu
1/2 cup sesame seeds
2 tablespoons cornstarch
3 tablespoons all-purpose white flour
1/4 cup oil

Directions:
First, you need to press the excess water out of the tofu. Put a clean dish towel on a flat surface. Take two paper towels and fold them in half and in half again. Place one of the folded towels on the dish towel. Take the tofu out of the package, drain off the water, cut it in half horizontally and put it on top of the first paper towel. Put the second paper towel on top of the tofu. Fold the paper towel and dish towel around the tofu evenly. Place something heavy on top – either a plate, another cutting board or a skillet. Make sure the weight is evenly distributed or the plate/skillet/cutting board will fall off. Let this sit for 30 minutes. Cut the tofu into 1/2-inch squares. Mix the sesame seeds, cornstarch and flour, and roll the tofu in this mixture until well coated. Heat the oil in a small skillet until hot and fry tofu until well browned. You can also deep fry the tofu. Drain on paper towels, and serve warm with Plum Sauce. Alternatively, you can coat the fried tofu in Sweet & Sour Sauce or Teriyaki Sauce.
 

Easy Plum Sauce

1 cup plum jam
1 tablespoon white vinegar
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
Pinch garlic salt
1/3 to 1/2 cup water

Put all the ingredients together well; bring to a boil on low heat; boil about 2 minutes stirring constantly. Cool the sauce and store in a jar in the refrigerator. Use within a few days.
 

Fresh Plum Sauce


Ingredients:

1/2 pound fresh plums, pitted and chopped
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 teaspoons soy sauce
1 clove garlic, minced
1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
Pinch red pepper flakes

Directions:
Directions:
Place all of the ingredients in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat and simmer for 25 minutes or until the plums are soft and the sauce has thickened slightly. Puree until smooth with a hand-held mixer.
