3/4 cup whole milk
1/2 cup white sugar
4 cups all-purpose white flour
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

4 to 8 cooking apples, peeled, cored and sliced
1 can Comstock cherry pie filling

Directions:
Scald the milk. Add the sugar and salt, stir to dissolve, let cool. Cut the butter into the flour. Stir in the yeast, then the vanilla extract and egg yolks. Lastly, add the milk mixture. Combine well, form into two discs, wrap in plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour.

Roll half of the dough to fit the bottom of a 15 x 10 inch buttered baking sheet. Cover the with sliced apples. Spread the cherry pie filling over the apples. Roll out the other half of the dough for a top crust and place on top of the filling. Pinch the edges of the bottom and top crusts together. Cut slits in the top crust in a decorative pattern (to let steam escape). Put in a large plastic bag and let rise for 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Brush the top with egg wash or cream and sprinkle with sugar. Bake for 30-35 minutes.
