1 clove garlic, minced
3 tbsp. olive oil
2 1-lb. cans (4 cups) tomatoes
2 6-oz. cans (1 ⅓ cups) tomato paste
1 c. water
1 tbsp. sugar
1½ tsp. salt
½ tsp. pepper
1½ tsp. crushed oregano
1 bay leaf

Cook onion and garlic in oil till tender, but not brown; stir in remaining ingredients. Simmer uncovered 30 minutes; remove bay leaf.
