6 TBL butter
1 medium onion, finely minced
29 oz diced tomatoes
8 C tomato juice
6 TBL sugar
1-2 TBL chicken base or 3 chicken bouillon cubes
Freshly ground pepper
1/2 tsp baking soda

1 C sherry (optional)
1 1/2 C cream (or half and half)
1/4 C fresh basil (optional)
1/4 C chopped parsley

Directions:
Directions:
Melt butter and cook onion until translucent
Add tomatoes, tomato juice, sugar, bouillon, and pepper.
Heat almost to boil, turn off heat.
Add baking soda, then stir in remaining ingredients.
