2 c. sugar
1 c. buttermilk
1 t. baking soda
1/2 t. vanilla
2 T. butter
pecans or other nuts, optional

Directions:
Directions:
Boil sugar and buttermilk to soft ball stage. (When dropped into cold water, a soft ball forms.) Add baking soda, vanilla, and butter. Beat until creamy. Add nuts and pour into pan to cool.
