1⅓ c, all-purpose flour
¾ tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ginger
½ tsp allspice
½ tsp salt
½ tsp baking powder
½ tsp soda
½ c. brown sugar, firmly packed
½ c. shortening
½ c. boiling water
½ c. molasses
1 egg, slightly beaten

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º. In large bowl, combine or sift together flour, spices, soda, salt and baking powder; blend well. Add remaining ingredients. Mix until well blended.
Pour into a greased 8" or 9" pan. Bake for 30-40 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean in the center. Serve with lemon sauce. (Recipe for lemon sauce found under sauces).
