1 ¾ c sugar
2 c flour
1 tsp baking powder
2 tsp baking soda
½ c cocoa
For Step 2
½ c shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 c milk
For Step 3
1 c boiling water

(For cupcakes add an additional 2 T flour

Preheat oven to 350º

Grease and flour 2 8=9 in pans or a 9 x 13 pan

Sift together Step 1 ingredients.

Add and mix Step 2 ingredients.

Add Step 3 and beat.

Bake for 35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

This has always been my favorite chocolate cake recipe. Growing up it is the only chocolate cake my mom ever made. It came from my Aunt Etta who was my maternal grandmother's sister.
