1 c shortening
1 c sugar
2 eggs well beaten
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp allspice
1/4 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp nutmeg
4 T aniseed
1/4 c light corn syrup
1/2 c molasses
1/3 c water
1 tsp soda
6 c flour

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening throughly add sugar & cream well. Add beaten eggs, spices & aniseed. Combine syrup, molasses, water & soda. Add to cream mixture. Add flour.
c/hill at least 4 hours, Mold into long rolls 1/2 inch in diameter. Cut int 1/3 inch pieces. Place one cut side down on greased bakings tins. Bake 8 minutes @ 400 degrees.
Makes 400 pieces. Should be as large and brown as hazelnuts.
