6 firm Bosc pears-cut bottoms to make float,1 bottle dry red wine, 1 c sugar,water as needed (2-3 cups).
optional:can add cinammon,allspice,lemon

Directions:
Directions:
Peel pears and leave stem intact.In a large pot bring wine,sugar,water to a boil.Stir to dissolve sugar.
Add the pears to the liquid adding water if needed to cover pears (use a smaller lid to push pears down).Cook 25-30 minutes until tender.
Remove from heat. Uncover and allow pears to cool in poaching liquid.
Serve with ice cream or poaching liquid that has been reduced to syrup.

Pears can be stored in liquid for one week refrigerated.Liquid can be re-used.Simply add 1c wine and 1/3c sugar to refresh.
You can also replace white wine for red.
