3/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter, softened
2 eggs, beaten
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 t. baking powder
1/4 t. ground cloves
1 t. allspice
3/4 c. milk
1 t. vanilla
1 1/2 c. candied fruit, cut in half (if using cherries and pineapple)
8 oz. chopped dates
1 c. pecans, toasted
Grated peel of 1 lemon

Cream butter and sugar; add eggs. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk and vanilla. Stir in rest of ingredients. Spread in greased jelly roll pan. Bake at 350º for 40 minutes or until tester comes out clean.
