Bread and Butter Pickles Recipe

4 qt. cucumbers, sliced thin
6 small white onions, sliced
1 green bell pepper, in thin strips
1 red bell pepper, in thin strips
3 cloves garlic, chopped
1/3 c. salt
3 c. white vinegar
4 c. sugar
1 1/2 t. turmeric
1 1/2 t. celery seed
2 T. mustard seed

In crock or large bowl put cucumbers, onions, peppers, garlic and salt; cover with lots of crushed ice. Mix well; let stand 3 hours. Drain; put cucumbers in a large pot. Add rest of ingredients; bring to boil, but do not let them cook. Put in jars. Process in boiling water bath 15 minutes for pts, 20-25 minutes for qts. Remove from water; leave undisturbed for 24 hours. Make sure they are sealed by pushing down in center of lid. If it doesn't come back up it is sealed. ( 8 pints )
