1 1/4 c. boiling water
1 pkg. chopped dates
1 pkg. golden raisins
1 t. baking soda
1 stick butter
1 1/3 c. sugar
3 eggs
vanilla
spices (nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice)
2 c. flour
1 lb. candied cherries and pineapple
1 1/2 - 2 c. chopped nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Pour boiling water over dates, raisins and soda. Let cool. Beat butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla and spices together, then stir in cooled mixture. Add flour gradually. Add fruits and nuts. Pour in well greased pan lined with waxed paper. If this is a bundt pan, bake at 325° for 1 ¼ - 1 ½ hours. If you use 2 loaf pans bake at 325° for 45-60 minutes.

This was a recipe for a plain date and nut cake, but over time changed into a cakey fruit cake. Ga always made a cream cheese/butter frosting to put on top.
