Directions:
Dough for nut roll:

Combine yeast, sugar and hot water, and mix well. Add to this the egg and box of Pillsbury Hot Roll mix. Mix well.

Knead dough on floured board about 5 minutes. The directions for kneading dough are on the back of the box of hot roll mix. Place kneaded dough in greased large mixing bowl and cover with a towel. Let dough rise 1 hour in warm place. I put the oven on 150 º when I start mixing the dough. As soon as it reaches that temp I turn it off. It is nice and warm for the dough to rise in for 1 hour.

The nut filling:

Mix the nut filling by combining finely ground walnuts with sugar and melted butter.

Putting roll together:

Divide risen dough into 3 or 4 parts and roll out individual pieces of dough on a floured board into oblong shapes about 8 x 12 inches. Divide the nut mixture into like portions and pat it on rolled out dough with your hand. Roll it up like a jelly roll and place on greased cookie sheet, seam side down. Let rise 30 minutes. (I put it back in the oven.)

Whisk together the egg and a few drops of milk, and then brush on top of nut roll.
Bake at 350 º oven about 15 to 20 minutes on a greased cookie sheet, until golden brown. I place two rolls on a cookie sheet.

Once baked let cool a few minutes and remove from cookie sheet. Once cooled you can wrap them in cling wrap and aluminum foil and freeze them if you wish. Simply thaw one when your ready to eat them.

Personal Notes:
A dear friend of mine Alice Nykaza made this nut roll for me as a Christmas gift. It was so delicious I asked her for the recipe and have been making it ever since. Thanks Alice. Love to sit down with a cup of coffee and a piece of nut roll in the morning. So delicious!
