For the cake:
1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
3 1/4 cups plain flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 cup milk
8 egg whites, at room temperature
1 tbsp vanilla

For the icing:
1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup grape juice
8 egg yolks
1 cup raisins
1 cup pecans
1 can coconut

For the cake:
Cream butter and sugar. Gradually stir in milk and vanilla. Sift flour and baking powder twice. Add to batter; fold in egg whites. Line bottom of 3 9 inch pans with brown paper. Bake 350º for 12-15 minutes or until done.

For the icing:
Beat yolks and sugar. Mix in butter. Cook in double boiler until thick, about 40 minutes. Grind raisins, pecans, and coconut. Mix nut mixture into ingredients in boiler. Take off stove heat. Add 1/2 cup grape juice and stir well. If a little thick, add a little more grape juice. Spread on cake.
