2 pkgs. active dry yeast
2 cups very warm water
3 Tablespoons sugar
1 Tablespoon salt
2 Tablespoons shortening
˝ teaspoon each: dried oregano, dried thyme, dried basil (for white bread, omit herbs)
4-5 cups all-purpose flour

Directions:
Directions:
Sprinkle yeast over warm water in mixing bowl; stir until dissolved.

Add and stir in sugar, salt, shortening, herbs and 2 cups of flour.

Beat about 2 minutes or until batter falls in “sheets” from the spoon.

Beat in enough remaining flour to make a stiff batter.

Cover, let rise in a warm place, free from draft, until doubled in bulk, about 40 minutes.

Stir down, turn into greased 9 x 5 x 3“ loaf pan. Let rise about 20 minutes. Preheat oven to 375

Bake for 30-40 minutes. Remove from pan and cool.
