1½ c shortening
1½ c sugar
1½ c brown sugar
1½ tsp vanilla
3 eggs
3 c sifted flour
1½ tsp soda
1½ tsp salt
3 c rolled oats
12 oz chocolate chips
(For polka dot cookies use smarties)
1 c nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Thoroughly cream shortening, sugars and vanilla. Beat in egg, then 3 tbsp water. Sift together flour, soda and salt; add to creamed mixture, blending well. Stir in the rolled oats, chocolate chips and walnuts. Drop by teaspoon onto a greased cookie sheet about 2' apart. Bake at 375ºF for 10-12 min. Cool slightly before removing from pan.
Makes 12 dozen cookies.
