Ingredients:

2 sticks margarine/butter
2 C sugar
2 C Water
1 t salt
2 t cinnamon
½ t cloves
4 C flour
1 t baking soda

Directions:
Directions:
Boil first 7 ingredients for 10 minutes. Bring to boil then keep at low boil. Stir occasionally during 10 minutes. Cool mixture, but not to the point where the margarine/butter hardens on top. Stir occasionally as it cools. Cooling takes a while so you can't make this in a hurry. The mixture is cool add 3½ cups flour and baking soda. Add the other ½ cup flour gradually judging how much of it to add to make a stiff batter (but not too stiff). Bake at 325º for about an hour. Test with toothpick which should come out dry. It is a moist cake and overbaking will dry it out. Practice makes perfect. It is a delicious cake!
