2 c. shortening
1 c. white sugar
2 c. brown sugar
4 eggs
2 t. vanilla
2 t. baking soda
2 t. hot water
5 c. flour
2 t. salt
12-16 oz. chocolate chips
1 1/2 c. chopped nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Lightly grease cookie sheet or use parchment paper. Cream shortening and sugars; and eggs and vanilla. Add soda which has been dissolved in hot water. Stir in flour, salt, chocolate chips and nuts. Drop by teaspoon or small cookie scoop. Bake at 350º for 10-12 minutes. Cool on rack.

This recipe is from Kathy's best friend Betty's mother. She used to make these for the cafeteria at Andrew Jackson High School in Miami. Needless to say, she had to make them every day as they sold out quickly.
