Ingredients: |
Ingredients: 2 cans of Hunts Tomato Sauce 1 1b. 13 oz (only start with one can and then if sauce is not thick enough as it cooks you add more sauce later)
1 lb. Sirloin or ground round (don't drain the meat if not much grease)
1/2 cup onions (diced)
3/4 cup celery (diced)
2 carrots (regular size cut up into several pieces)
1/4 tsp. garlic powder or to your own taste (mom uses 1/4 tsp. only)
1 tsp.Oregano
Salt and pepper when browning the meat
1 tsp Basil
1 tsp Parsley Leaves
1 tsp Italian Seasoning
1/2 cup wine (Grandpa Lonati used his homemade dry red wine) or you can use white cooking wine or whatever wine you choose but should be a dry wine
Water (when you dump in the sauce of the 1 lb 13 oz can, rinse the can with water and fill it about 1/3 to 1/2 full and add to the sauce) it will thicken as it cooks up.

Directions:Brown meat in large pan like a 3 qt. saucepan. Add Salt and Pepper to taste. Add onions that are washed as well. Add celery. Pour in 1 can of the Hunts Tomato Sauce. Add Water. Add the carrots and all the spices. Add the wine.
Simmer for at least 2 hours. Don't add more tomato sauce unless the sauce is not thickening up. Probably will use 1/3 of the 2nd can to thicken up. |

2 to 4 hours is about right.
This sauce can be used for Spaghetti, Ravioli, and Mostaccioli
Mom uses thin Spaghetti noodles and Moma Tuscano's Ravioli
