3 T. cocoa
1/4 c. hot water
1 can condensed milk
3 egg yolks
1 unbaked pie shell
MERINGUE:
3 egg whites
1/2 t. cream of tartar
(or baking powder)
6 T. sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Mix cocoa and hot water; stir to a smooth paste. Add condensed milk and egg yolks. Pour into pie shell. Bake at 350º until nearly firm, about 30 minutes. MERINGUE: Beat egg whites until foamy. Add cream of tartar. Add sugar, 1 T. at a time. Beat until stiff peaks form. Pile on hot pie. Bake until browned (about 15 minutes).

This recipe was given to me by a very dear friend who lived in Key West. This has been a family favorite for many years. The pie is very rich and so smooth!
