1 gallon dry white wine
2 quarts strawberries (1 quart whole and 1 quart sliced or crushed)
12 sprigs of sweet woodruff
1 pint brandy (or 1 bottle of champagne)

Directions:
Directions:
Start your May bowl about 3 days before you wish to serve it.
Put 6 sprigs of woodruff in the wine and 6 sprigs into the brandy. If you opt for champagne instead of brandy put all the woodruff into the wine.
Let both rest in a cool place.
When you ready to make the bowl, put a large block of ice into the middle.
Add both the whole and sliced or crushed strawberries.
Add the wine with the woodruff and the brandy.
Add a bit of sugar if the wine is too dry.
If you are using champagne, add just before serving. (Personally, I would use both brandy and champagne.)

This recipe comes from the Caprilands Herb Farm in Connecticut which a group of us visited some years ago. I grew sweet woodruff in Holmdel and made this recipe for special occasions.
