1. 1 lb asparagus spears (or green beans)
2. 2 TBSP bottled Italian Salad Dressing
3. salt
4. fresh ground pepper
5. 8 cups Mesclun or one 5 ounce packaged mixed BABY salad greens
6. 1/4 cup dried cranberries or cherries or pitted whole dates (I use Cherries b/c Jeff doesn't like cranberries
7. 4 ounces crumbled goat or blue cheese
8. 1/4 cup toasted pecan pieces
9. 1 large tomato seeded and chopped (optional)

dressing
1. 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
2. 2 TBSP packed brown sugar
3.1 clove garlic
4. 1/4 tsp kosher salt
5. 1/4 tsp ground pepper
6.1/2 cup olive oil

Directions:
Directions:
1. snap off woody bases of asparagus and discard; cut asparagus on the angle into 2-3 inch pieces. Steam asparagus for 2 minutes and then broil for 2-3 minutes in the bottled Italian salad dressing til slightly brown (I steam for 3 minutes and do not broil).

3. the recipe calls for preparing separate salad plates but I put all ingredients in a large bowl, toss with dressing and serve.

Personal Notes:
I think this salad dressing is now called Maymay's salad dressing. I typically increase the nuts. I've served this salad at holiday time often.

Editor's Note: It is in fact called MayMay's salad dressing and goes very well on Caprese salads too!
