3 1/2 cups of flour
1/2 teaspoon Baking soda
3 1/2 teaspoon Baking powder
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup butter or oleo
1 egg
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup raisins or currants

Directions:
Directions:
Mix all dry ingredients, then cut in butter/oleo with pastry blender or fork till well blended. Beat in egg. Then add buttermilk, mix well. Lastly add raisins/currants.

You may turn out onto a flour board and knead lightly or you may skip this step.

Put batter into a greased and slightly floured pan (large round cake pan or an 8x8 square pan will work) Make a cross on the top with a knife.

Bake 350 degrees about 40 mins or until golden brown.

Brush with warm butter or oleo on top.

It is always good served toasted!
