1 lb bulk sweet or hot Italian sausage
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
3 cloves garlic finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper
28 oz can Italian style stewed tomatoes
1/2 cups half and half or light cream
12 oz rotini pasta
3 tablespoons finely snipped fresh basil grated Romano cheese

Directions:

1. In large skillet cook the sausage, onion, garlic and red pepper. Cook sausage until it is no longer pink, stirring to break up pieces of sausage. Drain excess fat.

2. Stir in undrained tomatoes, boil gently, uncovered for about 5-7 minutes. Add half and half or light cream. Simmer about 4 minutes until mixture thickens slightly.

3. Cook pasta and drain.

4. Add sauce to pasta and heat through. Serve on warm plates. Sprinkle with basil and Romano cheese.
