2 pounds sweet onions, sliced
1/2 head cabbage, sliced
4 Tbls butter or margarine
1 Tbls flour
1/4 tsp salt
2 cans beef broth
1/4 cup sherry
1 cup water
4 thick slices of french bread
1/2 pound grated mozzerella or jack cheese

Directions:
Directions:
Slice onions and cabbage. Cook for 15 minutes in margarine or butter until slightly browned and tender. Stir in flour and salt. Add beef broth, sherry, and 1 cup water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and cover and simmer for 20 minutes. Toast bread slices in a 450º oven until lightly browned. Spoon mixture into soup bowls, place a slice of bread on each bowl, top with cheese. Bake soup for 20 minutes at 450º or until cheese melts.
