6 tart apples
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
1 tbsp lemon juice or small piece of lemon-rind OR
1/2 tsp nutmeg OR
1/2 tsp cinnamon OR
6 whole cinnamon cloves

Directions:
Directions:
1. Wash, peel, core and cut apples into pieces, or wash and cook whole.
2. Add a small amount of water to keep from burning.
3. Cover and cook gently until tender.
4. Add sugar to sweeten and cook a minute longer.
