1 cup lukewarm water
1 tsp granulated sugar
1 envelope dry active yeast (7 grams, or 1/4 ounce and equals 2 1/4 teaspoons)
4 tbsp butter
1 tbsp granulated sugar
1 cup sifted icing sugar
1 tsp salt
1 well-beaten egg
2 cups sifted flour
2 tbsp grated orange rind
1 tbsp orange juice

For dough:
1. Measure lukewarm water and stir in 1 tsp granulated sugar.
2. Sprinkle with yeast.
3. Let stand 10 minutes and then stir well.
4. Cream 1 tbsp butter in large bowl.
5. Blend in 1 tbsp sugar and 1 tsp salt.
6. Add beaten egg, part at a time, beating well after each addition.
7. Mix in dissolved yeast and 1 cup flour.
8. Beat until smooth and elastic.
9. Work in sufficient flour to make soft dough - about 1 cup more.
10. Turn dough out onto floured board and knead until smooth and elastic.
11. Cover with tea towel and let rest while preparing orange mixture.

For orange mixture:
1. Cream remaining 3 tbsp butter.
2. Blend in icing sugar alternately with 1 tbsp orange juice.

For assembly:
1. Roll out dough into a rectangular shape (12 x 9 inches).
2. Spread with half orange mixture, starting at the long side.
3. Roll up jelly-roll fashion, seal seam.
4. Place on greased cookie sheet, bringing ends together to form a ring.
5. Using scissors or sharp knife, cut through to centre at 1 inch intervals.
6. Turn slices to one side, overlapping each other.
7. Cover with tea towel and place in a warm place until doubled in bulk - 45 min.
8. Bake 350 for 20-25 minutes.
9. Spread top with the remaining orange mixture while still warm.
10. Serve warm or cold.
