For cookie:
2 cups sifted flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp soda
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1 egg
3/4 cup milk
2 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1 tsp vanilla

For frosting:
3 cups sifted powder sugar
3 tbsp melted butter
1/4 cup cream or evaporated milk
1/8 tsp salt
2 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
1 egg
Directions:
Directions:
1. Sift flour once, measure, and resift with the salt and soda.
2. Cream shortening and sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy. Add the egg and beat well. Add milk, alternately with the flour, beating until smooth after each addition. Add cooled melted chocolate, nuts and vanilla and blend.
3. Drop from a teaspoon onto a lightly greasted baking sheet and bake in a 375 F oven for 10-12 minutes or until done. Remove from sheet and cool on wire crack.
4. For frosting, melt butter and chocolate together. Add cream to sugar and blend, then combine the two mixtures. Add egg and beat well. Add more cream, if necessary, to make frosting good spreading consistency. Spread on slightly warm cookies and allow tops to dry before storing. This will make 4-5 dozen.
