For the squares:
1 ½ c. rolled oats
1 c. + 2 tbsp. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. baking soda
½ tsp. salt
½ c. butter
1 tbsp. maple syrup

For the filling:
2 c. chopped dates
¾ c. bourbon or whiskey
1 tbsp orange juice
zest of one small orange
¼ tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º
Line an 8"X8" pan with parchment paper.
In small bowl, combine oats, flour, cinnamon, baking soda and salt.
In large bowl, beat together the butter, sugar, maple syrup.
Add dry ingredients to wet and mix well.
Press half of mixture into pan.
Top with filling (below).
Add remaining oat mixture to top.
Bake for 25-30 minutes

Date Filling:
Place dates, liquor, orange juice and zest and salt into small saucepan.
Over medium high heat, bring to a boil.
Turn heat to low and simmer, uncovered, stirring occasionally. You want it to be thick. About 12 minutes.
