1¼ c shortening
2 c brown sugar
2 eggs
½ c warm water
½ t salt
1 t soda
4 c sifted flour
1 t vanilla

Cook and cool the following:
1 pkg dates
1 c water
½ c sugar
3 T flour
½ t vanilla

Drop dough. Drop filling. And then a little bit of dough on top of that.
Bake at 350º.
