Directions:Beat sugar and butter in a large bowl until smooth. Beat in vanilla and egg. Slowly add in the flour mixture. Divide dough in half; wrap each and refrigerate over night. Heat oven to 375º. Roll out dough on a lightly floured surface to 1/4 inch thick. Cut with cookie cutters. Arrange on cookie sheets. Bake 7 to 8 minutes until light brown. Cool slightly before removing. After they are competely cooled icing cookies.
Powdered sugar icing:
1 cup powdered sugar 2 T. warm water 1 T. corn syrup
Mix warm water with corn syrup and let cool. Whisk the powdered sugar with the water mixture until you have a consistency that can be spread on cookies. If it is to thin add more powdered sugar if it get to thick add more water. Icing can be colored with food coloring or gel. I get better results using gel. |

Notes: I can remember about 4 weeks before Christmas my mom baking several batches of these cookies and we would put the icing on the cookies as a family. If you broke one while icing you got to eat it. It never failed that Kev would eat to many cookies that day and be sick that night. Every year now I do a cookie decorating party at Christmas for friends and family and bake these cookies to decorate. The kids love these cookies and a couple of years ago Colton even helped me bake them. Not only are these cookies delicious they bring back some very fond memories.
