2 C sugar
3/4 C shortening
2 C unsweetened applesauce
3 1/2 C flour, sifted
2 tsp baking soda dissolved in 4 tbsp water
2 tsp cinnamon
"a little cloves and nutmeg"
1 tsp salt
1 C raisins
1/2 C chopped nuts (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 350º.
Mix all ingredients adding raisins and nuts last until moist.
Grease and flour 9 x 13 x 2 inch baking pan.
Bake in baking pan "until done" ; check 30 minutes.
A toothpick should come out clean when cake is done.
