1 c. dark brown sugar
1 stick butter
4 large eggs, slightly beaten
3 T. milk
½ t. baking soda
3 c. all-purpose flour (use part to mix with the fruit)
1 t. cinnamon
1 t. nutmeg
1 t. cloves
¼ c. rum or whiskey
4 c. pecan halves
½ lb. candied cherries
½ lb. candied pineapple
½ box white raisins

Directions:

Preheat oven to 300º. Chop cherries and pineapple and combine with nuts and raisins in large bowl. Sprinkle with a little of the flour and stir to lightly coat. Set aside. Cream brown sugar and butter. Add eggs and mix well. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Pour over the fruit and stir until well mixed. Drop by teaspoons onto greased cookie sheets and bake for about 12 minutes.

This cookie recipe is from Nanny Spear, and even if you don't like fruitcake, you'll like these. It's good to make them small - just one or two bite cookies. You can make them a month ahead of time - they get better with age!

WARNING: DO NOT try to take a short cut and buy the fruitcake mixed fruit. There's something in there that is bitter and will ruin your cookies! Trust me on this - it happened....
